Pacific Island Canoes:  The Outrigger

The link above is a collection of stamps from all over the Pacific with paintings of the different canoes each of the islands are known for.  These were made from beautiful paintings and the descriptions of the stamps have good details.

This is an informative site for many different Micronesian islands and cultures.  On this page, the author discusses how the Gilbertese people carved their canoes.  There are drawings that explain how the dirrerent parts are made and put together to make a long distance canoe.
